Probably prudent to wait for an explanation on this from the UN, GHM, or both rather than jumping to any particular conclusion; and also should bear in mind that counting the dead during war is very, very difficult.

I don't think it makes Israel's actions any more justifiable, but maybe the media should stop taking Hamas at its word.

America mostly failed at doing quality realtime summary statistics during the pandemic and that was a dramatically easier task than what Gaza Health Ministry is trying to do. The best numbers we have are the best numbers we have; that doesn’t mean they’re good.

which is to say, as many people in this thread have observed, it's going to be impossible to establish precisely how many people have been killed in real time or even after the war. the 24,686 identified is probably an absolute floor

yeah but it’s kind of a mess in terms of what exactly is coming from where, and if you’re switching methodology you should 1) say why and 2) explain the methodologies
