yeah i mean, if i were a cop, i also wouldn't want to deal with a bunch of people packing heat in an area mostly known for drunken tourists.

Now that you mention it, the fact that it's good for public safety may well be entirely incidental to the reduction in demanding work for them and reduced chance of themselves getting shot at, but, honestly, I'll take it. Sometimes, incentives align.
