Disagreeing with writing advice about cutting *all* unnecessary words from prose feels so small in this rapidly crumbling world, but...writers, keep those unnecessary words if you want them. Find your voices and let them run riot with imagery and rhythm. Don't AI yourselves.

The sacred rite begins again.

Fall doesn't often begin on Stephen King's birthday, and it doesn't this year, either, but happy first day of fall anyway, everyone. And happy birthday to the first of my heroes.

So happy to say The Inconsolables will be published in Spain next year! José Ángel de Dios García did an amazing job translating Greener Pastures (Un Lugar Mejor) in 2017, as two Spanish award nominations (and one win) made clear. Ángel and Maite make unique, gorgeous editions.
