yes, I use emojis in comments and queries to authors to convey tone and sometimes for congeniality. no, I'm not sorry about it.

theory about what makes this track so "funky": Sly sets a slow tempo and then subdivides the beat, constantly emphasizing the 16th notes with the figures played by the horns, drums, bass, etc. This approach is all over Fresh. Musicians who actually *play* funk, does this theory hold any water?

folks… we are juiceless we have lost the juice how could we lose out to Threads of all places on bullying the Times
Wow. @nytimes.com has closed their Threads account and left the platform after days of getting just shredded in the replies for their handling of Biden post debate. Now they're getting dog piled on Instagram for running from Threads.

MedSky folks! Needle-stick aftercare? Giving kitty her shot when she bolted, and I got myself through her skin. She's up on her shots, and her issues are only orthopedic (i.e., nothing bloodborne). I forced some blood and washed the wound. Anything else I can/should do here? Thanks in advance!

actually the musical ground covered from 1967’s A Whole New Thing to 1973’s Fresh is kind of mind-blowing. I realize I usually take it for granted in the typical hindsight perspective of looking back on historical events. but as it was happening, it must have been…phew

"Today only 5.7% of physicians identify as Black, while Black people make up over 13% of the U.S. population. Similar gaps exist for Indigenous and Latinx populations. Increasing the number of Black primary care physicians by county leads to an increase in the life expectancy of Black patients."
Good health care is rooted in evidence. So is DEI.harvardpublichealth.org DEI in healthcare has become controversial, but it shouldn’t be. Evidence shows that patients benefit from doctors with the same background.

really didn’t intend to post about the POTUS election but it just clicked in my brain: the panic about Biden assumes that voters who otherwise would have voted Biden might vote GOP because of “cognitive issues” but seriously do we think people who actually would vote DEM are going to change their—

I genuinely could not put this book down. Juggernaut plot with good character-building, and I was really struck by how @gabino.bsky.social seamlessly integrated horror elements into (very dark) noir.

"Tidier" and "more concise" are so often wrong for a narrative voice. It's more a matter of genre, style, etc., and besides, we now have AI to homogenize literature. 🫤 Most writing "rules" are made to be broken...it's just a matter of knowing when and how to break them.

a friend recently pointed out how cover copy for fiction titles is now an unreliable indication of what the book is actually about, and I gotta say I really see it on recently released books. gross misstatements of basic plot points, distorted takes on a books premise 😵‍💫
