just to add to this excellent point, most very successful people (in professional terms) haven't faced much true adversity in their professional careers (that's part of being very successful), so when things go off the rails, they panic. E.g., the NYT editorial board.
I describe it with the good kid/fuckup dynamic. Dems are treated as the good kids who bring home straight As so even a mild screwup is magnified & treated accordingly. Republicans are the fuckup sibling parents let do whatever they want with no accountability because nothing is expected of them.
