Return to Oz - a movie that had a subplot about Dorothy being committed to a psych ward and given electroshock therapy because everyone thought she was delusional - was a thing that all of us just watched. As kids!
Once again, in case you’re wondering why Gen Xers are “like this,” watch any Disney movie between Walt’s death & The Little Mermaid, the shit we were raised on. Tried to rewatch The Rescuers last night and it is utterly Bananapants that a single soul thought this was acceptable kids’ fare

If you care about the USA, the single best thing you can do today is to contribute to a downticket race thats close. The second best thing you can do is cancel your NYT subscription and use that money for the purpose.

Whoever is the Democratic nominee, I hope that people are aware that there are going to be MAJOR protests at the Dem Convention in Chicago. People are going to be protesting US ongoing support of genocide and much more. I hope this doesn't lead to more social media freaking out.

The mainstream media has found their new “but her emails” and it seems most everyone is falling for it. I can only imagine the America we’d have if the media hadn’t been bought by oligarchs hellbent on bending us to their will.

“The rabbits got the gun now” coming from a lawyer for a crooked Governor going after a newspaper writer is such a telling comment about how much we’ve let powerful people cast themselves as victims and it goes from this to Elon to Trump and everywhere else
Mississippi is the poorest state in the US. Even though the state gets federal welfare funds, it is difficult to get welfare. The money was all getting stolen, and they got away with it. Now the journalists who exposed the story are facing a lawsuit and jail. www.nbcnews.com/investigatio...

Read this story and then ponder how many good apples in the police department and prosecutor's office *absolutely knew* who was the real murderer was and conspired to railroad this lady to protect him.

Batman sucks.
the whole ‘actually, killing the villain makes us just as bad as him’ trope had done incomprehensible damage to society and i’m not kidding

Conservatives always have terrible bills ready to go should they get the outcome they want, and liberals rarely have bills ready to go should they get an outcome they don't.
The ghouls are wasting no time on this

Any conversation with a middle-aged/older white woman that begins with her saying, "This is just how I feel, but" will be a bunch of problematic bs. Any conversation with a middle-aged/older white woman that ends with her saying, "That's just how I feel" was a bunch of problematic bs. Never fails.

i was just going to make a post about this. if trump decides you are an enemy of the state or a “threat to national security” and has you deported, citizenship or not, there’s nothing you can do to get home. he has full legal power to render you stateless.
Related, if trump is summarily deporting citizens under his new mass deportation regime, citizenship and an ability to appeal to the law isn’t going to get people back in the country. The executive runs border security

I guarantee you the conclusion centrists and Carville-esque liberals are going to take from the recent European elections is “OK well we tried but it’s time to throw the immigrants under the bus, there’s no other way to survive.” Some of them have already landed there and the rest are en route.
Someone who I didn't think was progressive but who I assumed was reasonable went full-on "if the right-wing takes over France it's because the ungrateful immigrants tried to destroy the country" and welp.

I'm glad Biden spoke about SCOTUS' immunity ruling today from the White House. But at this point, the only statement I want to hear from him is "Give me a firm majority in the House and Senate in November and I'll expand the court."

I understand the pull of doomerism but I'll also point out that "red-state" organizers and activists have been living under, and resisting/rebuking, many and various forms of oppression for a long time and should be considered leaders in this moment. Like I said back in 2017:
Red-State Progressives Hold the Blueprint for the Trump Resistancewww.rollingstone.com Liberals in conservative states know a thing or two about fighting back against single-party rule by bigots.
