hey biblical scholars: any word on why/how song of songs/song of solomon got canonized? wikipedia tells me when and that the "it's about G-d's love" explanation is very old but like, *gestures vaguely* how'd it get there
on the subject of things I have read with a cheerful lack of understanding: I still don't really . . . get . . the Song of Solomon? or at least I don't get why it exists in the context that it does? It's like: BOOK OF PROPHESY BOOK OF SEX POETRY BOOK OF PROPHESY

I'm wondering if it was just a whole series of bishops going "well, we've got one bit of poetry from Solomon, and he's Very Important, so I guess we have to keep it in, even it's transparently about sexual longing" ?
