This evening I ran 8 miles to cap off a 42-mile week, which I think is a high mark for me. It was a warm but pleasant run (low humidity) in state forest lands near the Allegheny River in Venango County.
Another two shower day due to the humidity. First shower was because I ran 13.5 miles this morning. Second shower was because… I used electric clippers to trim 3 willow bushes and then raked up the trimmings. 😓
Hallmark is starting to release extended versions of popular movies and I’m very here for it. If you’ve ever made me watch special editions of LOTR then you’re going to sit through Three Wise Men and A Baby: Extended Cut.
I went for a night trail run with a friend last night. We saw (in increasing size): gnats, mosquitoes, moths, millipedes, a snail, a frog, a (likely feral) cat, a porcupine (yay!), a couple of deer, and the full moon.
Worlds End 50K! Today I ran 31+ miles (with over a mile of elevation gain) for my second Ultramarathon. Beautiful course full of Hills and Waterfalls and Rocks and Mud and Ferns.
The eagle rests their yellow talons in
The soft brown mud of a farm field
Corn seedlings just beginning to sprout
They are alert and waiting
For country road traffic to clear
The deer rests their roadkilled body in
The shallow grave of a roadside ditch
Carrion feeders just beginning to pick
We’ve been starting to plan our wedding that is next May 4th and jokingly thinking of asking @scalzi.com to officiate/DJ.
We were going to send an official email query, but also realized we should definitely NOT tell her mother the plan, or else she would totally road trip to Ohio and kidnap him.
Post a *perfect* album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.
I didn’t come to this album until the early 2000s. It’s not my usual style, but I love how it broadened my horizons to a realm of other artists.

this record changed my life. every song is open, vulnerable, tender, and immaculately performed. "Fear" is still my favorite song of all time.
i feel real things when i listen to this record.
I noticed a snapping turtle on the road during my drive home yesterday. Fortunately, I still had a snow brush in my car, so I used it to help them move off the roadway.
Speaking of food discourse, on yesterday’s run I tried Grilled Cheese Sandwich as a nutrition option to supplement granola bars and energy chews. It was successful enough I will carry one with me on the next long run.
Oil Creek Stacked 5+13: back-to-back trail races. Warm and humid, but fun!
Eggs: fried over medium w/ salt & pepper, and a bit of salsa or hot sauce
Steak: pretty much any cut as long as it’s well-seasoned and cooked +/- medium
Milk: low fat close to 34F
Alcohol: not so much lately but rye whiskey with one ice cube
Warm Drink: black breakfast style tea
As I was preparing to mow the lawn last night, I noticed a cardinal fledgling on the ground. They were able to make short flights, and both parents were around making chirping sounds. I think they were leading the young bird to a safer spot in the woods.

Lovely run this morning in the Kennerdell Tract of the Clear Creek State Forest along the Allegheny River. I stepped off the trail for a moment to check out a small waterfall and saw this cute little dude.
