The German idiom is "blind on the right eye", as in "German police is blind on the right eye".
It's a tradition.
(The idiom goes back to Weimar, where police was failing to investigate murders committed by Nazis)
Also, not the deputy head of THE federal police union. Germany has two large police unions: The conservative, larger one (GdP), and the smaller, more rightwing one (DPolG).

I know it's a small point, but lying about that is so pathetic.

I just don't get how that phrasing happens. Like, the union isn't even called Federal Police Union, that's what was tripping me up. It's German Police Union. (The 10 times larger one is called Union of the Police. Germans are very literal).
