a probably unpopular opinion is that the escalating culture of leveraging bullying and victim-blaming to coerce people into voting for democrats has actually been an acceleration mechanism for fascist creep, and bears significant blame for where we are today.
We give Reagan a lot of shit but I think we need to spend more time flogging the ghost of Senator Joseph McCarthy and Herbert Hoover.
If they hadn't ground the Communism out of America our planet might not be fucking dying.
Blackrock CEO : as a billionaire i think the only way to shore up retirement and social security is for people to work into their 70s
Press : so there’s no other option
Billionaire : none that comes to mind
I understand and acknowledge the "you have to vote" folks have valid reasons for feeling that way but it seems to me the fact that the only viable alternative to open, direct fascism is slightly more subtle, covert fascism is a systemic problem, not an individual one.
Rain has pretty much canceled July 4th celebrations and fireworks around here but we are being treated to something even better: thunderstorms! The original - and still best - Big Noise with Lights in the Sky.
The obvious answer, if you're the Good Guy, to having unwanted supreme uncontested executive power, is that you use it against itself, destroying the power forever before the Bad Guy can get hold of it.
If you're the Good Guy
All these "in defense of oldness" takes are missing the mark for me because they deflect from my actual complaint, which is that they are both sadistic evil bastards.
I still can’t get over how hard this attacked me. It came into my home and stabbed me multiple times a few months ago and I may actually now be a ghost
if it's not clear what the Dem party plan is to protect vulnerable communities from whatever's coming, just peep their COVID policy to get a good sense of things.
I think it's hilarious that liberals mock direct action and say dumb shit like, "Why aren't you firebombing a Walmart?" when they would be the very first to decry that kind of activity if it happened and label it as "terrorism." They couldn't even tolerate peaceful campus protests against genocide.
Please be nice to pharmacy staff. Most stores are understaffed and overworked, and that was before Riteaid closed and sent a tidal wave of patients to every other outlet. These people help keep us alive.
Ice cream man can reset the supreme court today and get a lot of important shit done in the next few months but if democrats actually put a stop to this fascist shit then you might not be scared enough to vote for them.
doesn't seem sustainable!
but I'm just a lil doomer what do i know
SCOTUS: the president has unlimited executive power now, and can never be prosecuted for anything done in an official capacity
THE PRESIDENT: wow that's a pretty big threat to democracy but there's nothing i can do about it so you better vote jack
Just think: if we kept voting, we could elect a whole string of Democratic Presidents all of whom would tell us that they can't do anything and that it was up to us to elect another Democratic President who would also not be able to do anything.
So many of these people spent YEARS telling people that things that political organizers said would happen would not happen due to 'precedent', norms, collegiality, etc and they were fucking wrong 100%.
