Every picture of JD Vance looks like the guy secretly reporting everyone for their lawn being too high in the HOA.

It's been a few years since discovering a yellow jacket nest in my back yard while raking. Today it was while weed wacking! Some stings the pain is already gone, others are still raised and very sore. I admire these wasps as a wonder of evolution but would not mind never interacting with them again!

@blackmudpuppy.bsky.social You know anything about uromastyxs? Ours has had several "seizures" (mouth open, thrashing about, gets spaced out for a while) and I have no idea why.

No so gentle reminder. As an editor I see a lot of papers, some that are poorly written, lack proper format, and in general are sloppy, but somehow carry MULTIPLE authors. This tells me either a) co-authors are not reading them, or b) they don't care. THIS. IS. UNACCEPTABLE.🧪

Ah the joys of living in the south where your neighbors have their lawn service out to start cutting in mid-February.

Since this place is open, all I can say is, block early, block fast, screenshot Nazi/troll accounts to warn others, and do NOT engage. Do not QT bad actors. Their accounts will die/wither and they will leave. Defend your queer/trans skeeps with every last ounce.

Learned about the Aedes subgenus Mucidus from Larry Reeves at the Florida Medical Entomology lab who said they look "moldy". Looked up the meaning and I'm dying.🧪

Reading two papers from my grad students today makes me proud. Like how did I get so lucky to have students like this?

It's weird that my dentist offers botox.

Journals that do not include line numbers or don't require it of authors are doing reviewers a massive disservice. Like come on it's 2024!

It Friday so here's a noir looking Aedes albopictus larvae resting near a leaf. 🦟

I bought myself a wearable Art to celebrate a work achievement, it just got here today, and I am SO ridiculously happy with. I may never take it off.

Some fossils make you go WHOA at first sight and this is one of them: an ancient grasshopper nest with 50 intact eggs. It's the first fossil grasshopper nest ever found! Discovered at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Oregon, it offers a peek at insect reproduction 29 million years ago 🧪
