Here's my final figure showing the scattering efficiency of a sphere in Mie scattering, with the different multipole contributions illustrated. I ended up citing Wikipedia because I could not find a better choice of parameters than theirs!

Four months ago, the Economist thought the country was being run pretty well.
IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

Doing a little bit of Mie scattering calculations (scattering of electromagnetic wave by a sphere) for a book figure. And for fun.

Would a statement from the “White House physician” that Biden is perhaps the healthiest president in history, and that he’s built like a linebacker do the trick? And would you not then elect that physician to Congress? No? I don’t get it.

It really is making *me* feel crazy to see a bunch of other Democrat voters running around screaming about how Biden is now unelectable, on the basis of one bad debate and an incredibly obvious ratfucking campaign by America’s most craven newspaper.

Lest we forget, Tammy Duckworth is one of the greatest politicians we have right now. She uses a wheelchair.
Offensive as fuck, and The Economist should google “FDR.”

The NYT is repeating its successful coverage of Hitler in the run up to WWII
Here’s the New York Times website, still obsessing about Biden’s debate performance. The Supreme Court’s ruling granting Trump immunity from criminal prosecution is no longer anywhere on the front page.

I guess I’m just learning now that there are lots of libertarians who think voting is “irrational” because your individual vote is unlikely to affect the outcome? Yes, it is a *collective* act, which is why libertarians don’t understand it I guess

Why I Don't Vote (OK, I Do Vote, but I Would Like to Discourage You, NY Times Reader, For Doing So For Some Reason) Via @bubbaprog.ilovecitr.us
Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.

Thinking also of the 1948 Donora smog that killed 20 people outright and made thousands sick. One of the reasons the clean air movement started. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Do...
Like remembering that before unions, a lot of folks worked 6 or 7 days a week, it's worth remembering that before environmental movements, the air and water in a lot of places were fucking gross. Left to their own devices, companies just straight-up poisoned people. They will again if we let them.
