I'd imagine some folks would vote for him *because* he said these things, too. 😑

Yup. And there are others who'd hear that, and be a bit put off, but wouldn't have a huge issue, because they support the death penalty and figure "a man's got a right to defend himself" and not think too hard about the context. "I mean, he said SOME people, that's just TRUE."
