How unreasonable for people who have been under constant bombardment for weeks to assume they're being bombed every time something explodes after a bomber has flown right overhead!
To me, this looks less like the passive voice and more like Twitter-esque 'defensive writing', where you try to pack your statement with preemptive rebuttals to a thousand screaming nitpickers.
the whole point about raising a fuss about coverage of that hospital bombing wasn't so much that they cared about getting the blame in that specific case, it was to muddy the waters and bully the press into more of this nonsense

Not dead. Not even killed. And god forbid the much closer to the facts murdered. They're just "less" of life - which is exactly how NYT columnists see these people, that their lives are just lesser.
