i filed my name change and gender marker paperwork today. and set a court date to actually get the thing done. it’s been a weight over my head for ages. and that’s lifted. also realized i have cis people in my corner willing to fight for me. in whatever capacity it’s needed.

i would simply request that you read my thread that shows, quite clearly, that the NYT's impact on trans people isn't theoretical or amorphous (though it of course has those effects as well), but rather is quite direct. It is actively harming my trans siblings.

one thing i’ve learned from over a decade in this industry is it’s very hard to engage politically with ppl who are convinced their profession is inherently Good. and its basically impossible when your primary mode of engagement is stupid ass pile ons. learn to distinguish catharsis from praxis!

it’s true many prestige liberal journalists reflexively defend each other bc they need to avoid acknowledging the structural role they play in the oppression of others. however, i think it’s unproductive, tedious and corny to obsessively harass these ppl when there are better targets to choose from.
