Battlestar Galactica...i'm probably gonna think of a lot more if I don't stop myself

I drafted like seven answers to this. Can’t do it. If I was looking for “perfect episode” it would be pilot for Battlestar Galactica. Most prescient: Monsters are Due on Maple Street.

[cringes, winces at the prescience of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street] Aye. That goes plenty hard. It's tricky with The Twilight Zone, you know? Like... The Night of the Meek is my *favorite* episode, but there's something so elementally terrifying and powerful about The Howling Man.

Jack Frost is 100% my favorite MST3k episode. "I thought Jerry Garcia was Father Mushroom."

More than Manos? Wow

I'm not sure Manos is even in my top 10, honestly. Is it *iconic*? Goodness yes. But even the mocking silhouettes can only do so much to make that film bearable. It's the MST3k you have to watch at least once, but not necessarily very often.

There are folks who will have Manos at #1 or dead last or at alllllllll various points in between. The way I see it? I'd have to think that Manos is the *most important* episode in the MST3K canon. There's something about it that transcends what it contains and comes to represent something greater.

I have to add: Manos has what I would consider the MST3K GOAT riff: "Every frame of this movie looks like someone's last known photograph" That's a *powerful* statement, especially when it's paired with this movie.

Manos is a distilled essence of what MST3K is. I feel like it's a wonderful onboarding point to introduce people to it, both the wraparound concept and the kind of material they target. Like it? You'll find a lot more. Don't like it? You at least know what it's about, and you'll find better.

There is no episode of MST3K that gave me *that* much anticipation to watch than Manos. When I finally got a copy (Rhino VHS!), I was truly anxious to watch it. Long story short: It lived up to the hype. It's truly THE episode.

I remember watching Manos for the first time when I was maybe fourteen. Saw it late at night, and it disturbed me. Really disturbed me. Took me a long time to watch it again. For years, it was kind if mythical to me as the movie so bad the Mads apologized for showing it.

And Torgo had them riffing on LOTR before it was cool.
