I’m not Christian in any conventional sense, but I love this thought in John 9:3:

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him.”

A good thought whenever I behold something needing fixing.

Ross Douthat is doomed because he’s paid to present a conservative viewpoint and conservatism is such a shitshow that he can only say “Ignore the pig, admire this lipstick!” Douthat aside, Harris’s entry has indeed reframed the election around identity and pluralism versus white male et cetera.

I try to avoid Douthat, but I may skim this one. Because he may have a point. Last winter, Astead Herndon interviewed young men who liked how Trump “stood up for men.” They cited *his antagonism toward women and gays.* Perverse! But Walz offers a healthy alternative version of masculinity. CBTM

Upon reflection and skimming the piece, I’m thinking the election is a referendum on misogyny. How would that go over as a headline, do you think? Think it would garner some clicks?

More on the topic: bsky.app/profile/radl...
Theory: After Clinton the right pushed a masculinity that emphasized monogamy, devoted fatherhood, decency, etc. Then came Obama, who was better than them at all of it. It drove them fucking mad. So their “masculinity” now is just ostentatious edgelording — Trump, Musk, Tate … and whatever this is.

Good setting for good picture of a good dog! Our poodle matches her surroundings almost too well.

Can’t say I’m thrilled to see Vice President Harris promise to lower prices. Seems to me it would do more good and make more sense to raise wages.

Divide the generations as you like, but to my (born 1955) mind, if you can’t recall where you were when Oswald killed JFK, you’re not a Baby Boomer. Harris and Walz probably have no memory of 1968, for that matter. Give them to the Xers, with my compliments.

An excellent counter to Sen. Lankford’s “nothing to worry about” sanguinity. *Some* courts may protect the innocent, but the good senator and his Republican colleagues will busy themselves installing judges whose merit lies in their fealty to the Dear Leader rather than the law.

Pair this piece with Lulu García-Navarro’s interview of James Langford, who isn’t worried. We’ll only orphan kids who chose the wrong parents!

Forgive me, “Lankford” (R., Okla.)

Republicans, especially evangelical Republicans, believe almighty God saved Donald Trump from death to restore America. I’m not particularly religious, but I thank God if He did play a role, for what a shitshow we’d have had Trump died. We really, forgive me, dodged a bullet.

Any chance you listened to The Daily this morning? Two youngish women, at least one with school-age children, both-sidesing the parties. Maddening but understandable, given their levels of information. Both just want Harris to make her case. Not motivated by Republican perfidy or Democratic legacies

Tim Walz is showing young men what masculinity looks like

As Walz said in a TikTok I saw yesterday, one person’s communism is another person’s neighborliness.

Yes, what or where is “the center”? I’m going to say it’s the middle class. So if an action supports the middle class, I’m going to say it’s centrist. Tax cuts for the rich? Radical, for they harm the middle. School lunches? Centrist. Abortion? Centrist. Equal rights? Centrist. This isn’t hard!
The job for Democrats is not "moving to the center," wherever that is. It's articulating progressive positions and convictions in a way that makes clear that they represent common sense and straightforward thinking. If you don't understand that, maybe the whole pundit thing is not your calling.

Tim Walz can tell by looking that nut won’t fit because you picked up the 12 mm when you want the 1/2"
tim walz wants to know when's the last time you checked the state of your gutters

My time travel story would be super boring because it would just be me going back to 1975 to buy the Red Wing 101 and 102 (black and brown) blucher lace leather shoes, 11-1/2 A (very narrow).

Republicans deride Harris’s laugh because they realize her Happy Warrior will prevail over their Dour Insult Comic. Worse, in a debate, she may laugh at him, which will be the equivalent of pouring water over the Wicked Witch of the West.

An America that quickly gets over schoolchildren’s slaughter can barely shrug at an assassination attempt.

When I see developmental hierarchies such as those from from Lawrence Kohlberg and Ken Wilber, I see liberalism arising out of conservatism. For that reason, I’m surprised liberals can’t relate better to conservatives. Liberals have been there. Maybe no patience for something they’ve left behind?
