I’ll try to keep posting about my experience at Grinnell to a minimum until it’s over — as Ram Dass advised us, be here now — but the “Do Not Disturb” hanger at the college hotel is a small work of genius
A colleague of mine forgot to pack pants to take to a poetry reading. Ran to a store to buy some. Put them on, gave his reading. At the end, the MC walked up to him, said, "Sorry, but I can't resist," and pulled off his pantsleg one of those long adhesive things with waist and length printed on it.
I've never lived in a dorm but from novels I've gleaned that a necktie/bowtie (classier, apparently the symbolism appears in some non-university hotels) or a sock (purely a university/young person roommate thing, I guess) on a door handle indicates that the occupant is, um. Busy. You know.
Yep! Once you know! But it's just opaque enough to cause scenes straight out of a farce, so hopefully the youth of today have figured out something better 😂
