You should believe in empathy instead. His behaviors--and not just this--are stroke symptoms, not crimes. He shouldn't be driving and he damn well sure needs to retire from being a US senator.

Language processing is a discrete set of processes, and can be impaired pretty much on its own. Often not, of course, but possible.

THis is my job. He is pretty severely impaired as a result of his stroke. It is not going to get any better and we all need to pretend not to see what is obvious.

Not my patient, but many people with left middle cerebral artery strikes (guessing) are inattentive, probably has poor coordination, slowed motor speed, impulsivity problems, and on and on. Probably could not pass a driving test.
