He could be a Jack Vance protagonist along the lines of Cugel though
JD Vance shares a first initial and a last name with one of my favorite SF writers. This shouldn't piss me off, but somehow, it does.

Dreamt that I was Keir Starmer doing a solo covers set at a festival last night. (Mixture of Motörhead, Oasis, early 80s indie and Schubert as far as I can remember)

Here’s the thing about the Vance pick: it’s probably unhelpful in electoral terms. But, in terms of governance, it’s further evidence that they’re Going For It. Trump 1 was hobbled in his authoritarian attempt by the admin and GOP. Trump 2 will be aided by both. They’re gonna go for it.

Well it turns out that it is possible for Trump to grow as a person; he’s got over his pogonophobia at long last

Ah, Helion Books’ newsletter is always a genuine small joy between the most rivet/gaiter button-counting books (delete according to period) and fascinating social topics - a comparison of German and British post-war attitudes towards shell shock eg. Plus also the “is this apologia or not?”

www.ft.com/content/b86d... it is genuinely one of those things that I don't get about how Chinese property prices are not too dissimilar to non-London UK house prices, but also that average earnings are still only a much smaller fraction of UK earnings.
Can Xi keep a lid on China’s mounting social strains?www.ft.com The authorities are increasingly concerned about rises in unemployment, mental illness and crime linked to the economic slowdown

In that twilight realm known as Kur, Irkalla, Land of Dust, the Great Below A lone man asked, "O, Great Ereshkigal, Queen of All the Dead, will I be remembered?" And naught was heard but the Goddess' laughter unending.

That is a massively higher number than I would have expected
The UK now has the most openly non-religious House of Commons in history, with 40% of MPs choosing secular affirmation instead of oath to God, up from 24% after the 2019 election. These include Prime Minister Keir Starmer and half the Cabinet. (Via Humanists UK)

And did he get pregnant? No. Did the job.
Boyfriend's confession - for weeks he's been taking antihistamines for seasonal allergies. When he ran out he asked whether I could get more. Knowing we had plenty I checked with him what he'd been taking. Turns out he'd been taking female hormone tablets for heavy periods.

Actually; that’s the second prize. The winner doesn’t
If the final matchup is between Spain and The Netherlands it will be especially pitched as historically the winner gets Belgium
