I saw a small mammal today in the wild that was either a fisher or (less likely) a marten. The world is beautiful and there are new things waiting for each of us.

We can’t catch Baicha the cat with hers but she uses it to communicate— here, demand for food..

I feel like we need beauty. Here’s a ship passing through a straight.

We faced this with our Affogatto when she was 15. It hurt but it was the right thing. All good thoughts for you at this moment.

When Baicha is closed out of the room she simply throws herself against the door while vocalizing. I sleep through the Great Yowling. Husband cannot. Here she is having taken over his pillow.

But the wild thing is it’s not even that simple. There were affluent agricultural societies; I study one, the ancestral Lenca of the Ulua Valley in Honduras. People who employed forms of farming that weren’t maximizing surplus for profit could make great artworks like these

Baicha furnished her appropriated pillow with toys she carried from other rooms. They weren’t cat toys until then…

Her victorious hunting voice, when she traps her sushi toy, is an indescribable kind of yodel that sounds like she is in pain. I have had to get over jumping up in concern— it alarms her as she is just singing the song of the predator.

Well, let's get to it!

The paw print we got for our Affogato last year was unexpected and did the same for me.

Our new cat was surrendered after her older female owner passed on. We are trying to give her a good future but she clearly wants us to understand routines we have no way to intuit. She’s only seven but still the loss of life long relationships is clear.

First year baking mom’s Christmas cookies in new oven. Crisis with the kipfels narrowly averted by returning a pan to the oven when testing showed the flaky pastry was undercooked using the lower temp that worked in the old oven. Was not sure they would survive a second bake but all is well.
