Eisenhower lowered taxes, he was the beginning of the end.

Yeah, he lowered the tax rate for income over $400,000 from 92% to… 91%. Huge cut there. (Lower brackets got cut more but the majority of cuts were in the low-to-middle brackets.) The top bracket was reduced to 77% in 1964 under LBJ, then 70% in 1965 (but they also lowered the threshold to $200,000)

To me, "Eisenhower-era tax rates" doesn't mean "the tax rates Eisenhower personally wanted to set." Just where they were at the time.

I remember a short story, back in Analog in the late 80s, that involved interactively doing his taxes, and having to decide where all of his money should go.
