I’ve seen this multiple times at this point, where the poster acknowledges that the number of dead Israelis is low in absolute terms, and instead of taking that to mean you shouldn’t pay that much attention THEY UPWEIGHT THE NUMBER BASED ON ISRAEL’S POPULATION
And it’s like, I don’t pay attention to everything in proportion to how important it is. The only people actually doing this are EAs. But don’t upweight something arbitrarily to justify your attention
There are probably going to be upwards of a thousand dead on the Israeli side, and who knows how many on the Palestinian side by the time Israel is done, so I don't think it's a low number in absolute terms
Hmm I guess it’s not low in absolute terms although, did you know that 2,000 people just died in an earthquake in Afghanistan, one that absolutely will not make any US news anywhere
and i know whataboutism is stupid but i really do feel like most people in the US care too much about what's going on in Israel. We don't actually have much influence here. (Of course you're from there and many people have connections, but still).
I did in fact know this, yes (it was on WaPo yesterday before Israel took over everything). idk, the news is not rational, a few years ago everybody spent a month talking about one zoo in Copenhagen killing one giraffe
