for years I've made fun of "conserve water! take short showers!" as California's response to endless drought, citizens taking the heat for hotels and agriculture using the VAST majority of what's left of our aquifer
I lived out in the Mojave Desert (Ridgecrest) and the number of people living in the middle of the Desert with lawns was truly distressing. Legit water crisis, sprinklers pissing half the water into the street.
Turf lawns need to die.
I'm guessing you didn't live under constant water emergency, where the water in your town was at risk of simply running out?
Where the basin is overdrawn by 4 times the rate of refill?
The biggest user where I lived is a military base, btw. Not agriculture.
