It seems the kid has (what I think of as) the East Asian style of yes/no, which say "I agree/disagree with what you said". Vs the English "I assert something positive/negative." But I usually forget this, which leads to frustration! Example in reply #linguistics

Me: is this the right episode? LO (hardly having looked at it): It's not the right episode Me (after giving them a moment to watch): You *don't* want to watch this one? LO: Yes! Me: *confused* (It was indeed not the correct one)

Haha yes, that's a fun one, but personally I find it more irritating/fascinating how to scream "Nooooo!" in languages without a single yes/no pair. Often a dummy verb gets drafted in but finding info on this is hard, it's not usually covered in textbooks...
