Walk in to your local. Sign up for a card. Ask them if they’re hiring for any intro positions. Pays not great, but the people are usually nicer than retail. You don’t get to read on the job but you do get to talk to book people all day.
To be an officially Librarian you generally need a masters degree in library science. However, some libraries will hire assistants who can be trained on the job w/o a professional degree. Many libraries also need tech support, so if you have computer skills that can be a way in the door as well.
i have a friend who works at brooklyn public library and i just had a fantasy that she could help you get a job there and you could move to brooklyn but uh our mayor hates libraries so probably not lots of jobs rn
