This took me two decades to figure out on my own.
Just remember that it still depends on the material. For example a darker skin tone might have this flipped to where there’s only 3 or so light values and then more subtle variations in the darkest values.
I shared this one before but understanding the the falloff from light to dark is not linear was a big one for me. :D
In many cases the change from light to dark goes more like light, light, light, light, darkish, DARK.
Grabbed some cheap art supplies at Five Below. Ruled some lines on a sheet of Bristol to create swatches and test. Warm colors are the star here. Needs a Pale Light Blue and Light Gray to be more useful. Great for rough color blocking on sketches.

AI video/photo beauty filters are also becoming more common. You rarely see a celebrity in a commercial without their face being really uncanny looking.
That’s what this looks like to me. I think it looks fake and terrible, but it’s great at making cheap, slick propaganda by cutting out artists.
I watched my partner play through ACT. They were enjoying the characters and story, and were able to fine tune the challenge per encounter to enjoy the gameplay enough to continue seeing more story.
I don’t think devs should be forced to have these features, but I appreciate it when they do.
