For those who like knowing how the podcast sausage is made — prepping my lunch conversation with @aijiang.bsky.social for the next episode of Eating the Fantastic required 726 snips and deleted an extraneous 13 minutes, 37 seconds. Please join us Friday to experience the result! pod.link/1083737796

Printed out a snapshot of all the guests who've appeared on my Eating the Fantastic podcast to take to Readercon, because though I can rattle off their names without fail, what I can't do is correctly recall the episode numbers attached, and I want to accurately refer to them. pod.link/1083737796

Tonight's treadmill TV — The Bear Season 3, Episodes 6 and 7. And yeah ... that final scene was exactly how I figured the second of those episodes was going to end.

I was just typing "power on in the face of rejection" (or so I thought), but must have mistyped, because when I reread the sentence, I noticed spellcheck had corrected that to "power onion the face of rejection" ... and now I find myself wishing I had a power onion.

Woke in the middle of the night with an idea for another story ... which gets added to the list with a few hundred other ideas it will be impossible for me to get to before I shuffle off this mortal coil. I will never run out of ideas. Only time. (Not that I'm going anywhere yet.)

Happy birthday to comics artist/writer John Byrne, who long ago and far away, during the year 1975, when he was 25 and I was 20 and Dead of Night #11 introducing The Scarecrow had just come out, sent a note congratulating me along with this sketch applying his own style to my character.

Because I was recently invited to record an episode of a podcast to talk about my relationship with Marvel's Crazy and shared with the host a few images from a photo shoot I did for the magazine in 1975, I figured I should share one with you as well. And yes, I did look like this back when I was 20.

I once again popped in over at what used to be my social media home — which I do no more than one per month — to remind everyone I'm no longer there. This is my home now.

As a side note, this is John McEntee, Trump's Director of White House Personnel and the primary architect of Project 2025. On Tik Tok he said he gives counterfeit bills to homeless people so they will be arrested when they go to spend them.

Someday I'm going to collect in one place all the random comic books panels I've found about writing over the years to learn the effect they have when they rub up against each other ... but until then, here's one to make all the writers out there feel better (or maybe worse) about themselves.

Completed and packed away my 51st Moleskine notebook (and cracked open my 52nd) since I switched over to that method of daily journaling on December 21, 2002. From November 2, 1978 through that date in 2022, I bounced around a variety of notebooks, but for the past 21+ years, I've been locked in.

Today's treadmill TV — The Bear Season 3, Episodes 1-3. Seeing chef René Redzepi on screen reminded me of how well he treated us during my 60th birthday dinner at Noma. And now that I think about it, it's probably time to start figuring out where to celebrate my 70th!

During all the discussion over the contents of The Last Dangerous Visions, I find myself thinking of Michael D. Toman, who spent much of his life waiting for his short story to be published there, and then died the year before it wasn't. I'm sad he's gone, but glad he didn't't have to witness that.
