Since we're continuing to stumble blindfolded through an ongoing deadly and disabling pandemic, I decided to find the silver lining. I set up TradeMe alerts for "deceased" and "estate sale" a few weeks ago. Y'know, love a good bargain.

And I want to crochet another eel, lol. It's so cuddly and cool. But I don't have enough yarn left, gotta order more

Yeah I'm definitely getting this yarn for another go, the Bernat sheds way too much for my liking, lol. The tuna is glorious tho

I found the missing eye! And I think I got it fixed! Attach the pectoral fins et voilΓ  Tunanui is done ! I might add some little nostrils and the line of a mouf, but she's done I think. And so fun! So lonnnng, and plush, and slinky thanks to the crochet technique

Tunanui in progress. The eye placement is so tricky! Hard not to make it look like a python with the sort of pear-shaped head. Hopefully adding the fins helps

Now onto the third ball of Bernat Velvet plus, just to taper the tail off nicely. This means I've used at least 142m of super bulky yarn. I want to try making this again with a smaller hopefully less shedding chenille yarn, man, that's gonna take like 10 days even if I keep at it every day, lol.

Well, crap, I'm this close to done and somehow the tuna lost an eye in the middle of the night! My fault for jury-rigging them with hot glue because Past Me was too clueless about #dollmaking and forgot the proper backings when I bought them. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Ok, so I ended up going off script with the pattern anyway and it's mostly working. It is very thicc and soft yarn, and it also sheds like a nervous cat, and it's near impossible to see your stitches when doing taut amigurumi πŸ˜‚

But only if you're a Threat To Birdlifeβ„’. This was established long ago: Hugo's main goal in life is to defeat and devour invasive species that threaten the endangered birds of Aotearoa. He can eat hundreds of of mice, rats, stoats and hedgehogs in a single night! Really, he's due a ONZM.

Left frozen croissants to proof in cold oven overnight, then baked for morning tea. They were swiftly devoured by Flip and myself, with butter and Nutella. πŸ₯ Cheers, @estervallero.bsky.social , great fundraiser reward.

When Sister Sister did a rollers lewk on Drag Race UK, she said it was a very Liverpool thing to just pop out while you're getting ready like that, and I felt connected to that side of my ancestry for the first time ever, lol
I've worn plaid flannel pyjama pants and my hair in rollers to the grocery store once or twice, hardly anyone looks twice.

In other news, why does the rack in our #Spirograph kit say 150, but have 152 teeth? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Aaron looked at the example patterns, and he says they look like they were done on a 152 tooth rack. So why the misprint? Could throw off someone trying to do a precisely calculated pattern.

YES, IT'S A TRIBUTE TO HER, DON'T YOU JUDGE MY LOVE
Yarn folks, help: I want to crochet this giant eel pattern, which calls for a worsted weight yarn that's 325m and 198g per skein, using this plush super bulky yarn, which measures 71m and 300g per skein. I tried looking up weight conversion charts but none were very helpful.

Cheers, all, we've opted for cheese scones today. Not the best batch ever. They're, uh... Artisanal. Yeah, that's the ticket. πŸ˜‚
I want to bake something. Too cold today to make dough rise, though. Maybe scones. Scones are nice. What are y'alls favourite scone recipes? Please boost for reach.

More frosty morning pics from the back garden. The winter daphne is still bravely blooming in the cold. Some of the silvereyes land on it and peck at the flowers. I think I even saw a lone bee just now buzz up to it!

Frosty morning out here in Ōtautahi. The sparrows and silvereyes are so fluffed they're nearly spherical, and have smashed half the energy cake I bought two days ago. Topped up the cage feeder, and they were flocking back in minutes. ❄

So, fun fact, if you ever get engaged in conversation with Flip, he draws a lot on scripts lifted from his favourite books and TV shows, often remixing them with involvement from his rubber duck friends, usually Hugo and Sue (pictured).

Some of Flip's favourite bedtime stories lately are chapters from "What If?" "What If 2" and "How To" by @xkcd creator Randall Munroe. He's currently remixing the comic from the chapter How To Take A Selfie, saying that Sue is actually responsible for turning off the sun every 20 years to clean it
