My mum and dad used to play Aliens for C64 (the Electric Dreams version), a creepy-as-hell horror FPS(ish), at night and the sound of the motion tracker's whine would terrify wee me. I could never play it for very long when I first got a C64 of my own a year later.

I never got very far in Castlevania 2, one of my very first NES games. Not because of its cryptic BS, but because venturing out during the night was too scawy for widdle ol me.
I had a particular dislike for Ghosts N Goblins because of its death animation, which is weird since Mortal Kombat was a thing by then.
Come to think of it, a similar scene in one part of Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel put me off it for a long time even though I thought the character looked cool.
