Well, my dentist is immensely cool and did not charge me to remove the busted permanent retainer. She put the balance of my account to paying for a pair of removable retainers instead, which came out cheaper and I'm getting refunded for the remainder. Everything worked out better than expected :)

coming back to this, i realize more and more that my gripes with social media and half of furry discourse is just a recreation of the great 2023 bean soup fight of tiktok

Bean souping in this context means to consume media not meant for you. It comes from a bean soup recipe tiktok where 90% of the comments were "what if I don't like beans?". The obvious answer is don't make bean soup...

I've been a freelance reporter & photographer since 2014 and at no point did I support myself solely off of that work. I've done retail, bar tending, warehousing, construction, and now print production as full time jobs to pay the bills while following my passions on the side, and that's normal.

I wish writers and artists would talk more about their day jobs. Not only would it help others feel better about not creating “art” for a living (so few of us can) but also offer ideas on how to pay bills and achieve some stability

I have pretty effectively excised The Discourse from my social circles at this point, but I still hear rumblings of the current topic of the day in the distance and it's giving crabs in a bucket.

After 2016 I will never go into another election again thinking we’re winning. But what’s happening right now feels different. The presidential election is a stupid popularity contest and MAGA does not seem cool right now. The vibes are rancid.

I think the coolest part about Bluesky is that I didn't even know there was gonna be a Lilo and Stitch remake and everyone was mad about it until I heard it from a friend while hanging out in person.
