Terribly sad - his books were some of (imho) the best sci-fi ever written.

Damn. So sad to hear this. Vinge was great. He wrote some of the best aliens, and I use the term “programmer-archeologist” at work to describe how some software development works.

A fire upon the deep and deepness in the sky rewrote my brain. Seriously the best scifi.

That's a bummer. I really enjoyed A Fire upon the Deep and its related stories. Brilliant writer.
