im watching a very bad tv show that is an adaptation of a book i really enjoyed. and its been soooo long since i watched a bad tv show - clunky, soapy, bad dialogue. and its kind of pleasurable? like eating those powdered sugar donuts that taste like sweet cardboard.

Is this about Three Body Problem? I haven't read the book but I had to drop the show once characters starting somberly saying shit like "That's right. Science is broken."

I was going to guess The Magicians but in that case, I think the weaknesses are in the source material (still enjoyed the show though!)

I think Magicians is the rare case of the show/movie being better than the book.

Oh that's definitely true. I've read all three books and watched all the seasons and now I can't re-read the books, they suffer by comparison. They're not bad, just not as good.
