@thewaroncars.bsky.social I just listened to your latest episode and I think you missed something: bodega workers may not use cars to commute, but the goods they have in the stores got there by truck, and thus the congestion pricing will reflect in price hikes of goods.

Correction: this is the previous episode, I was thinking it was the latest because it was the latest on my playlist.

Congestion pricing will also ensure that they can get around faster because there is less traffic, which will lower their delivery costs

$15 split across a ton of individual goods will be completely non-noticeable, and that’s if you take the premise that the toll will be an added cost, instead of being more than compensated for by easier and faster deliveries with less traffic.

Just looked it up: $6-9 per truck off peak, which is when most deliveries take place, $24-36 peak. Might as well use the right numbers, your point stands.

It baffles me so much that Americans have such an inability to understand space that they think you can have an urban area with the density of New York City where people travel by private automobile. Just escherian logic.

I dream of a day when there are no cars anywhere and people just ride bicycles everywhere or walk. There is such a day once a year in Israel, and it is glorious.

We also pay a cost in very high asthma rates in this region and other environmental damage that results from trucks idling in traffic.

Don't get me started on trucks idling in the city, it is so frustrating.
