Well this is grim

This has become an annual tradition: the packed car. Did you know chips are quite bulky? How about disposable plates and cups for 150 people for a week?

When I packed the car I forgot to account for the volume of 250 folded and stapled booklets, but I'm fine.

Printing at Staples was never cheap but when did it become so expensive? Never doing that again.

I definitely was not thinking, until this morning, about how today being a holiday means the library will be closed.

Just saw a "Can you hear me now?" ad. What decade is this again?

I was watching Taskmaster Series 17 last night and I can't unsee it.

Wrote a nice letter to TSC customer care that since they don't see me or those I love as neighbors let alone family I will be taking my business elsewhere. Now to send a nice letter to elsewhere preemptively asking if they're going to be weird about queer money.

Oh, "starter packs" seems like a good idea for helping with the issue that any social media feels "too quiet" for most people on join.

A point I've started using lately is the fact so many families I speak to are leaving the only homes their kids have ever known to ensure their trans kid can maintain access to hormones or blockers. Do you really think they're doing that for anything short of essential for their child's well-being?

I like naming non-pathologized benefits trans kids get from this care. Less about decreasing depression/anxiety/suicidality; more about building friendships, healthier family relationships, more focus in school, more ambition, planning for their future. All of which is true!

I think the reason Philip K Dick is still the predominant SF writer of the last century is, he was the only one who foresaw a future where everything would be boring, inconvenient and dehumanising, and where the only way you can win is to somehow refuse to give up your humanity.

Subskeeting again: yes, having a vote for every little thing is tedious. No, it is not better for someone to decide by fiat what to do. This is literally the reason the committee exists, so multiple voices are heard in decisionmaking.

So about that dental work I've been procrastinating for several years because I was just starting to look for a dentist when Covid happened and then, well, there was always something more urgent. I might have procrastinated too long.

Because when it's not an emergency committees make decisions by putting it to a vote, not by the chair just making a call and saying it's done. How is this surprising?
