Hired my 20 year old son to do some transcript clean up for MTB episodes. He did well for someone too young to legally drink, but this one made me giggle: "In the US we sort of have 2 major styles of whiskey right? We have urban whiskey, and we have rye whiskey." Me, I like rye better than urban.

At Plonk in Bozeman, MT. They squeeze citrus to order but also free pour, so it's an interesting situation. I got the super fruity vodka drink made with gin and I'm happy. The rocks drink is gin, Campari, St Germain and lime. Also tasty. 🍸

It was so much fun exploring three bottles from Grandma's collection with the amazing Bea Bradsell! We talked about her Dad Dick's legacy, sampled three very different coffee liqueurs, and discused which one would work best in an espresso martini and why. Watch or read the transcript at the link. 🍸

Amazing day at Yellowstone today. Got to see not one, but two of the big impressive geysers go up, Old Faithful and Grand. And so much other amazing stuff!

What does this bottle of novelty whiskey have to do with Star Wars? You'll need to watch, read or listen at the link to find out. The label may says it's a "flavoring" but it's actually a bottle filled with delightful surprises!
Bottle #74: Old Croak | my tiny bottlesmytinybottles.com This novelty bottle of fake whiskey from Par Beverage was full of delightful surprises, from fine art, to the snoot flute and Star Wars!

If you are writing a cocktail recipe in 20-frickin-24, and you use volume measures for other ingredients, but still insist on calling for "the juice of 1/2 a lime," you are a bad recipe writer. I'll forgive the old-timey books, but IME a lime can range from 1/2 oz to 2 oz, and that matters.🍸

Definitely one of the coolest looking bottles in Grandma's collection so far! Tracking down the story of this gorgeous figurine mini took me to San Francisco and the birth of Pisco Punch. Watch, read or listen at the link.
Bottle #73: Inca Pisco | my tiny bottlesmytinybottles.com This tiny bottle of 1970s Inca Pisco from Peru took me to San Francisco, the home of the most famous Pisco cocktail of all - Pisco Punch.

"What makes sexual assault accusations tricky to navigate, in part, is this cultural sense that what is perceived as being private should stay private. Trying to take private business public feels off, because it goes against this cultural logic." Great piece on why we need to anyway.

After two older but lesser known coconut rums, Grandma's collection finally spit out the big dog, Malibu. Check out my latest My Tiny Bottles episode to find out about its unexpected origin story and surprising link to its biggest competitor for best-selling liqueur, Bailey's Irish Cream. 🍸

Today's WTFBBQ moment was finally tracking down the actual 1908 NYT source of one of the poems that's been used to describe Planter's Punch through the years. I've only ever seen reference to the first stanza, where the actual recipe is given. But it's followed by two fantastic odes to the drink! 🍸

I really enjoyed reading this piece from Molly Ringwald. Really thoughtful reflection on what we might call today "problematic faves."
ICYMI, Molly Ringwald wrote a pretty nuanced piece with her thoughts about Hughes' "glaring blind spot". She's naturally very generous in her assessment of him overall, but she does go into how not everything in the scripts was cool ‍ www.newyorker.com/culture/pers...

This week's episode about Marie Brizard Triple Sec might be my favorite yet - it's an awesome story about the real woman behind the name and the superhero-style rebooting of her mythology and origin story the brand has subjected her to over the years. Watch, read or listen at the link! 🍸

Vacation mixology experiments are coming to a close, so I've gotten a little more ambitious. Yesterday included a cherry rye smash. Today had a Bourbon Rickey (not pictured) and a strawberry rye sour (with egg white). Plus continued Old Fashioneds and Mai Tais. 🍸

We found an 1956 cookbook in the vacation house we're renting. It has a page of "quantities for 50" for various items. 12-15 lbs meatloaf... One was "juice for cocktail." The person with the book asked me what the answer should be. (1/2)

Vacation fridge cooking. Used the bacon fat from breakfast to cook the leftover rice and roast pork from the Dominican place with the kimchi we picked up at Son of Egg. Delicious!
