Today's word is FAIR. Today's #bookqw from Blood Dept ( @dawbooks.bsky.social 1997) bk 5 of the 4 bk Vicki Nelson Blood series. Turns out I had more to say... Also, asking the Vancouver PD about their procedure after finding a handless body at VanTerm leads to an intense conversation.

I don't realize how much I swear until I'm in a situation where I probably shouldn't. Like a somewhat classy restaurant. On the bright side, I made our server laugh--she'd never heard the word shit-ton before.

My two favourite resources. One, because word meanings can be complex, obscure, enigmatic, and labyrinthine. Two, because emotions are hard. (My family certainly never expressed any -- although that early training does allow me to compartmentalize like a mofo.)

I made my deadline. The manuscript of DIRECT DESCENDANT is off to DAW.

Today's word is JUSTIFY. Today's #bookqw is from Into the Broken Lands (@dawbooks.bsky.social 2022), over 160K words of created world fantasy in which I used the word justify, once. I think we can safely assume my characters seldom feel the need to justify themselves. Shop indie if you can.

Edits have removed a joking reference to the British North America Act. Kind of sad about that actually but to keep it in and make it work for non Canadian History nerds, I'd have had to explain the British North America Act and nothing slows the plot to a crawl like like politics from 1867.

It's 3:15 am. Chapter fourteen didn't so much need editing as gutting and rewriting. Good thing I'm not a morning person...

So am I the only one who watched (part of) the Olympic's opening ceremonies and thought Eurovision?

Going into the final edits, this book has a chapter that's 42 words long. I feel like Kurt Vonnegut. (Kind of dead, but also the short chapter thing.)
