Excellent, and expected. The Mario Bros. games in particular are so painstakingly hand-crafted. You can’t get anywhere close to that with “AI” and its compulsory crowdsourcing

AI in video games would just create those generative games where it’s endless levels of remixed elements that get boring and feel pointless. A list of the best games of all time are generally things with very specific choices being made.
The thing is, there are enough procedural aesthetics in game design that you can distinguish between Good and Bad algorithmic level generation, or at least have non-stupid arguments about it. But it’s the opposite of Nintendo’s particular aesthetic, which is all about the hand-crafted and bespoke.
