Update - brother in law helped me mill some of the walnut this morning. Just look how gorgeous this stuff is right underneath the surface. This stuff is extremely rich, owing to it being air dried rather than kiln dried.

I’m making a dining table set for the wife, and I’m making a series of end tables for my mom! This stuff is 100+ years old and was found in the hay loft of a barn. It’s *incredible*.

Not to blow up your notifications, but I just finished jointing the table legs and I can’t get over the amount of character in this wood.

I AM LOVING IT Also yes! It is truly special. What luck, that it was found after all this time! How did that happen?

I’m glad you asked! An orchard owner in the valley started woodworking in his 70’s, and he filled the loft of the barn with this lumber. He passed some time later, and his daughter didn’t ever look in the loft of the barn until 30 years later. She knew there was *something* up there, but not what.

Oh wow. Like one of those rare amazing Antiques Roadshow finds, but lumber! How cool.
