Protip for the younglings, slide a thin panel of sheet metal behind your drawing surface so you can harness the magic of magnets!

WITCH! ;) Seriously great idea. People need to drop by their local hardware place and grab it.

It was like 40 bucks at Canadian tire.

A large pizza pan or baking sheet from Dollar Tree would also work, if the metal at the hardware store is out of reach financially.

Depends on how big you’re working. The sheet I got was about $40 for 24”x36”. You’re not wrong though.

Yeah, for big-big art you'd have to work in pieces or get a larger sheet of metal, but for ≈ legal size or smaller, at $1.25 a large metal sheet pan will fit the whole thing just fine.

When my table was constructed I had the carpenter put a strip of metal across the top so that I could hold stuff up there. I couldn’t believe how long it took me to realize I could magnetize the whole surface! The sheet of metal cost maybe $40? It’s totally worth it.

Seriously though, that's pretty cool

It’s not really a problem with modern tablets but your mileage may vary. I’m mostly talking about holding up traditional surfaces, though.

I know I was just making a dumb joke. That's an awesome idea for a drawing table.

Ha! I noticed when I looked a second time. I’d read “my” as “a”.

Probably want to put tape under the magnets, too, to prevent the metal from rubbing off on the pages, right?

It’s not really been a problem so far. I do give them an occasional wipe though. All of that said, I’m not known particularly for the “cleanliness” of my work.
