The US government has also become a Gerontocracy so also tracks with the 80s Soviet union.

Over a third of US senators are ages 70 & over. 56% are 65 & over. 69% are 60 & over. Average age of senators in the 118th Congress is 64.

(and for historical comparison, between 1919 and 1999 at least 50% of the senate was under 60)
