“‘The crows come to the house and scream to warn us that there is no more water ... it’s our alarm,’ says Ortiz Ramos.” The US border wall cut off wildlife access to a natural spring, leaving numerous species without a water source in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. It’s one of many consequences.

Wait, can't the crows (unlike most of the other animals) easily fly over the wall to the spring? What's their angle here? Do they just like to have an important job, especially if it involves screaming?

I had the same thought, but knowing crows, they want the easier/closer tanks refilled, or they have quickly learned there is some other immediate benefit when refills occur (prey comes out for a drink?) But they are so damn smart, they may have a concept of "for the good of the wildlife community."

Crows are one of the smartest birds out there, and they can remember individual people for their whole life (and even teach younger birds on what people to trust and who to dislike). Birds know who is helping them.

Right, I’m assuming the crows’ intelligence and asking why they see the water as helping them, when they still have access to the spring. Is it a long game of keeping up the numbers of their prey?

Do you hear them Clarice? What are they saying?
