Fugazi making their shows $5 was more effective altruism than anything a bitcoin weirdo could ever pretend to do

I definitely want crypto guys to Well Actually me about this. I respect them and their ideas and I take them seriously

Ethics wise, most punk band in history, imo

1. SBF 100% took customer funds 🤮 2. the bitcoin protocol is not on trial lol

SBF sold Bitcoin that didn’t belong to him. So he created artificial sell pressure for Bitcoin of people that wouldn’t have sold it. (That’s why Bitcoiners recommend to withdraw Bitcoin from exchanges.) People superficially following the trial: „I told you, Bitcoin is a scam.“ smh

“The U.S. government has begun liquidating the bitcoin it seized from Silk Road exploiter James Zhong. The DOJ already sold 9,861 BTC on March 14, netting $215.5 million. It plans on selling the remaining 41,490 BTC in four installments over the course of the year.”

Thanks for the info - still a scam

Certain people only consider changing their stance when they feel extreme pain. Try withdrawing cash from your bank. Maybe if they deny you your own cash and ask you enough times why you want access to YOUR own money, you’ll take another look at having money that actually is yours.
Avatar
When this happened to you, what was the reason given?

This story keeps getting darker. It was a scam from the start

Didnt they used to print something like “pay no more than $10” on their CDs? I thought that ruled when I was a kid (still do).

when i saw bad religion, they played in a park here in brazil. initially, the tickets were 20 reais (today 1 real = 0.20 usd), then thay decided to make it free and gave away cd’s to all that had purchased tickets (it was in 2011 and just awsome)

Was awesome then, but now some of them probably wouldn't mind being able to retire comfortably.

Based on the bands own words, I think you’re wrong about this

I've never read about their actual finances. I'd assume Ian is pretty good from owning Dischord. I'd also assume they did pretty decently in their heyday and hope they don't have to worry about money at this point. They did move a ton of physical media ilback then.

I think it’s a mistake to attribute how you might feel to explain away artistic choices, especially when the artists themselves tell you they were glad they did it independent.

Look, I'd yell "sellout" at the drop of a hat in my 20s. In my 50s, the concept of a nice nestegg is pretty appealing. But yes, I'm a different mindset than the most punk rock/indie ethos that existed. I don't know if I could have turned those blank check offers down.
Avatar
And none of that matters because they did and not you

Yes, but lots of people also weren't in a massively successful band that left literal millions on the table.

And if you got kicked out you got your five dollars back, with crypto it’s just all my apes gone
