Boeing has reached a $4.7 billion all-stock deal to buy Spirit AeroSystems, a key supplier that provides fuselages for its popular 737 Max jets, including the one involved in a midair blowout this year.

Wasn't Spirit a spinoff from Boeing?

Yes, and they now also produce parts for Airbus. That's one aspect missing in this article which makes this all more complicated. There was talk that Airbus would not only want that portion of Spirit for free, but maybe even require payment from Boeing for taking it over.

Now Airbus planes can have their doors fall off, too!

What could possibly go wrong?
This is correcting a twenty year old mistake, i.e. spinning out Spirit in the first place.

"correcting" would be cutting them loose to fail as they should. This just insources a bunch of broken processes.
Also, I have heard from multiple sources with relevant knowledge that the process breakdowns are at the company separation line, which 100% squares with my experience of outsourcing.

How much does it square with you experience of Boeing's organizational culture changing from a focus on quality to a focus on profit? Cause that's the root cause of Boeing's failures, based on the published research.
My d00d, spinning out Boeing Wichita as Spirit Aerosystems is emblematic of the sort of MBA-brain BS that did so much damage to Boeing.
So, cutting them loose and replacing them with... who, exactly? It's not like there's a huge amount of spare aerostructures mfg capacity available to hire.

Wonder who they killed to seal the deal

"Popular" is certainly one adjective choice for the 737 Max

And everyone died happily thereafter. Come die w us.

Starting to undo the damage of spinning it off in the first place...

I wish I could screw up the basic function of my job that someone pays me 4 billion dollars

Oof, Boeing just cant get enough of the 737 Max eh? Double down.
