Floating colonies in Venus's upper atmosphere have been theorized for decades but anything goes wrong and whatever ends up on the surface is screwed.
The Soviets sent probes to the surface of Venus and even with advanced cooling systems none of them lasted a day.
I know about the idea of floating colonies but it's definitely not easier than building a normal colony on Mars. They both present challenges and distance is definitely a big one, but compared to building a flying colony in Hell having to travel a longer distance doesn't sound that bad.
