Patricia Highsmith, book published in 1970. Setting is Manhattan. What is meant by “snack bar”?

Things moving fast here. Maybe Biden will not be the nominee after all. If it's not him then it has to be Harris.

It's unpleasant knowing that unseen forces (SCOTUS, Heritage Club, etc.) are actively plotting to muzzle your political voice.

How The Bear can play some dumb Stones song behind what had the potential to be a very funny scene is beyond me. No comedic chemistry.

When did the New York Times become the Prosecution against Joseph Biden?

WAIT A MINUTE. So we send Captain America and Tony Stark to get the infinity stone and while they're doing that, they snatch Joe Biden of 2016 and we run him as president now.

Reducing Trump's terrible debate performance to "he lied a lot" misses a bunch of important stuff. It was as much - or more - of an incompetent disqualifying performance than Biden's.
it’s been a few days now and that “black jobs” thing is still all over my tiktok

Imagine how scary a future president you have to be to lose ground after that performance by Joe Biden?

I wonder if you can spot the egomaniac in what is surely a group of relative egomaniacs.

At times like this I like to meditate to the tune of the Match Game theme. It is truly wonderful music.

I didn't watch the debate, I'm just filtering the experience through everybody on this website. Should the Democrats start not participating in these things if there's no reality component to them?

Strange Brew, obviously.
What's your favorite film adaptation of a Shakespeare play, Bluesky?

What's a better TV show, Episode 1 of Season 3 of The Bear or Joe Biden and Donald Trump trapped in a room with each other for 90 minutes?

The drama of carefully paring a turnip into 11 equally thick slices

The subtext of all pre-debate spin is that major media outlets are completely full of shit. “Our opponent is the most eloquent man in the solar system, we’ll be lucky if we can piece four sentences together!” Thereby hoping to sucker Peter Jennings into saying your guy did really good.

Amazed at the many carping and nitpicking reactions to the movie HIT MAN by Richard Linklater on Letterboxd. There is a nontrivial chance that 10 years from now this will be regarded as a Groundhog Day-level masterpiece with layers & layers that very few people seem to have picked up on.

In addition to all his other great roles, Donald Sutherland played a James Joyce-quoting detective in the whimsical Neil Simon movie MAX DUGAN RETURNS.

Now that we're like 70 games into the baseball season, I'm going to say what everybody should have said last winter. It's bullshit that Ohtani signed with the best team.

Ohioans, today is a good day to check to see if you are still registered to vote in our state. And if you are not, or if you haven't registered yet, today is also a very good day to do so. www.axios.com/local/columb...

It's interesting when very common practices actually die out. Reading Evan S. Connell's Mrs. Bridge. Written 1961, set in about 1949. A story is told in which a "Mrs. Ralph Porter" figures. I didn't grasp until a page later that this was a woman and had to go back and look at the earlier passage.

I would support an AI that could construct a foolproof method of blocking all posts that uselessly taunt you about how old things are. (Nevermind is closer to Foghat than today etc.) I generally find that things happened about as long ago as they actually happened. And when not, well, time passes.
