The victims at the Jonestown Massacre did not willingly drink poisoned Kool-Aid.
The poisoned beverage was Flav-R-Aid, and most of the victims were forced to drink at gunpoint.
okay it's time for a prompt post: respond to this post with a correction to a common misconception about something you know a lot about. if you feel like it, boost your response. (please use a kindly tone about it, otherwise i, your prompt curator, will get anxious.)
I used to have a cat and a dog. They'd decide to wrestle at odd hours of the night. When this happened, I'd yell CHILDREN! BEHAVE! But this had to stop because it always led to me singing "I Think We're Alone Now"
When dealing with hurt, anger, pain, or sadness- ask yourself "If my most cherished friend were having these thoughts and feelings, what would I say to them?"
You owe yourself the exact same compassion with your own problems, and nothing less.
Be kind to yourself.
I NEED ADVICE.
When I first started going to cons (20+ years ago now) I had this idea to frame all my photos. Example shown.
Problem was, I had no idea how many of these I would accumulate, and how quickly. I have a lot. And not much wall space.

Try as I might, I now can't find any cereal based on some sort of license. No marshmallow-shaped Star Wars or Power Rangers or ninja Turtles or anything else I could think of.
Is this a weird side-effect of inflation, or is there something else to it?

I want to thank you all for being part of my community. Any of my communities- Trek, MST3k, comics, podcasts... I'm thankful for every one of you. I'm in a place now where I struggle to find that community feeling offline. What I get here, I feel and feel strongly.
"Kill your darlings" is the writer's version of "It's just a show, you should really just relax."
It's meant to stop you from latching onto minutiae, but you're still able to have productive discussions on things that matter.
"Kill your darlings" only applies if you're holding onto something that actually hurts your story. But jerks sometimes use "kill your darlings" as a weapon to try to break you. Don't wantonly kill what you love the most about your story. That's why you're writing it. Make it work.
Dracula does not have a reflection.
The Invisible Man does not cast a shadow.
I can't activate the hands-free sink.

I'll tell you this about BlueSky... it's literally the only social media site I use that isn't desperately trying to convince me to put ice cubes on my burgers when I grill them
Although a movie from 2003, Love Actually is in many ways the "final
boss" of 1980s RomComs. By successfully fusing the screwball nature of 80s comedy with the raw emotion that late 90s romances brought, the film caps off both genres. In this essay, I will...
My dad was a great listener. Like, really great. Which you might not expect because he struck you as someone who didn't like to have serious conversations about serious things. But he could recognize people struggling emotionally, and felt the need to help them. /1
