I enjoyed seeing the different public art developers provided (in lieu of a 1% arts fee) the first photo is a fairly drab facade, but as the trees grow that plaza (former slip lane!) will become an incredible public space I think #urbanism
the @cayimby.bsky.social team took a tour of the Broadway Valdez neighborhood in Oakland, one of the most successful specific plan areas in the state which has produced 4500 new homes in the past decade planning focused on public realm improvements instead of micromanaging the new buildings

look what I stumbled across exploring Richmond (CA) on maps! πŸŒ†πŸ˜οΈ each wing of the circle has 4 homes, I think, and it's ~1000 ft from top to bottom

there's a very strong case for a park there as well, especially since the area is vulnerable to sea level rise, BUT… you'd have to maintain some access to the existing parks, and you could put an infill rail station by University Village, and you could have 4000 new homes in a cool ass neighborhood

this is an astonishingly good recipe I’ve been making it with Asian squash in addition to daikon, and omitting the cilantro (since I don’t generally have it on hand)

what's the deal with this restriction on stucco anyway? iirc it also shows up in SJ's design standards, what do California planners have against one of the state's classic building materials?
Avatar
you, a simple rube: that building looks nice me, a sophisticated urban planning professional: you can clearly see that the facade has too much stucco and not enough material variation, and moreover the base and top lack sufficient articulating elements πŸšΆπŸŒ†
