In The Dawn of Everything the authors talk about how adjacent cultures often aggressively seek to define themselves by what their neighbors are NOT. I suspect this is an in group/out group thing, in part belabored so much in US because it was a "Canadian thing" to start.
Shower thought after yesterday's conversation--I wonder, what is the ethnic and/or class association that makes pineapple on pizza a thing that people lose their minds over?
("It's just Wrong" earns an insta-block did you learn nothing from yesterday)
But if pineapple is a Canadian thing, wouldn't Americans seek to elevate themselves by emulating us? What higher purpose could there be for them than become more like Canadians?
