I often refer to my orange cat, Ulysses, as being “Noble but dumb as a box of rocks” and I’ll be damned if that doesn’t describe a lot of folks I know.
There's a thing called feliway, which is a diffuser you plug into the wall that emits "Happy Cat" phermones.¹
Might be worth putting next to his new bed/perch; see if it helps him acclimatize to it?
